Dans un monde qui pourrait être le nôtre vit Zoey Redbird, une adolescente presque comme les autres...

Un soir après les cours, un jeune homme inquiétant s'approche d'elle. Soudain, il la désigne du doigt et lui dit : "Zoey, ta mort sera ta renaissance, ton destin t'attend à la Maison de la Nuit." A ces mots, une marque mystérieuse apparaît sur son front. Zoey est terrifiée mais - elle le sait - elle doit intégrer le pensionnat où sont formés les futurs vampires, pour y réussir sa Transformation ou... mourir.

Mon opinion

Je pense qu'il est important de préciser que ce livre est écrit avec un langage d'adolescents. Mais cela est fait exprès. P.C. Cast le précise à la fin du roman dans les remerciements : elle précise avoir été aidée par sa fille, Kristin Cast. Ne m'y attendant pas, j'ai eu un peu de mal au début à passer outre ce langage ou ce comportement très adolescent.

Mais l'histoire est vraiment très originale. En effet les vampires ne sont pas comme ceux vus dans The vampire diaries ou True blood ou encore Twilight. J'ai beaucoup aimé cette différence! L'une de leurs différences est qu'il fonctionne avec les éléments : le vent, l'eau, le feu, la terre et l'esprit. L'originalité de cette histoire repose également sur le fait que Zoey Redbird a des origines Cherokee, ce qui est plutôt cool.

De plus, j'ai beaucoup aimé le groupe d'amis - les nouveaux amis - de notre protagoniste. Le fait de devenir vampire la fait grandir et cela se ressent dans son nouveau groupe d'amis qui est bien plus mature et réels. 

Petit bémol : l'histoire malgré ses originalités est un cliché. Mais cela reste très agréable à lire. 

A la fin du roman, je voulais en savoir plus sur Nyx (la déesse des vampires), Zoey et son monde -ou plus exactement son nouveau monde. J'essaierai donc avec plaisir de me procurer la suite de cette saga.

An evening after class, a young worrying guy comes up to her. Suddenly, he points at her and says: "Zoey, your death will be your rebirth, your destiny is waiting for you at the House of Night". To these words, a mysterious mark appears on her forehead. Zoey is terrified but - she knows it - she has to enter the boarding school where are formed the future vampires, to make her Transformation a success or... die.

My opinion

I think it's important to point out that this book is written with a teenagers' language. But this is done on purpose. P.C. Cast says it at the end of the novel, in the acknowledgment: she says she was helped by her daughter, Kristin Cast. Not expecting it, I had a little trouble in the beginning to ignore this language or this very adolescent behaviour. 

But the story is really very original. Indeed the vampires are not like those seen in The vampire diaries or True Blood, or Twilight. I really liked this difference! One of their differences is that it works with the elements: wind, water, fire, earth, and spirit. The originality of this story is also based on the fact that Zoey Redbird has Cherokee origins, which is rather cool. 

In addition, I really liked the group of friends - the new friends - of our protagonist. Becoming a vampire makes her grow up and this is reflected in her new group of friends who are much more mature and real.

Small drawback: despite its originality, the story remains a cliché. But it's still very pleasant to read.

At the end of the novel, I wanted to know more about Nyx (the goddess of vampires), Zoey, and her world - or more exactly her new world. Therefore, I will try to get the rest of this saga with pleasure.
