J'ai vraiment adoré cette lecture. On entre dans un univers bien différent du nôtre où la population est séparée en famille sur différentes arches et en fonction de ces arches et de ces familles leurs pouvoirs ne sont pas les mêmes. C'est tellement original, bien montée, bien pensé. 

Les personnages sont super intéressants. On s'attache très vite à Ophélie qui dès le début a l'air de sortir de l'ordinaire. Arrivé à Citacielle, on ne sait plus à qui faire confiance. Cela donne une ambiance de mystère perpétuel, constant qui rend l'intrigue et les personnages entourant Ophélie encore plus intéressants. On essaie de comprendre les différentes personnes en même temps qu'Ophélie et c'est super agréable.

De plus, le rythme de lecture est très bon : en effet, il y a beaucoup d'actions. Cela ne s'arrête que pour donner encore plus de mystères aux différents personnages et à la situation, et avancer dans l'intrigue de "pourquoi doit-elle garder secrète son identité". C'est vraiment parfait, bien balancé. J'ai été surprise par certaines tournures d'évènements. 

Il me tarde d'avoir l'occasion de me plonger dans le deuxième tome pour retourner dans cet univers.

I really loved this reading. We enter a universe very different from ours where the population is separated into families on different arches and according to these arches and these families, their powers aren't the same. It's so original, well mounted, well thought out.
The characters are super interesting. We quickly grow attached to Ophelie who from the beginning seems out of the ordinary. Arrived at Citacielle, we don't know anymore who to trust. This gives an atmosphere of perpetual and constant mystery that makes the plot and the characters surrounding Ophélie even more interesting. We try to figure out the different characters at the same time as Ophelia and this is super nice.
Moreover, the rhythm of reading is very good: indeed, there are many actions. This only stops to give even more mysteries to the different characters and the situation, and move on in the plot of "why must she keep her identity secret". It's really perfect, well balanced. I got surprised by some events evolution.
I can't wait to have the opportunity to immerse myself in the second volume to return to this universe.

Nevermoor : les défis de Morrigane Crow de Jessica Townsend

Morrigane Crow est née le jour du Merveillon, ce qui signifie deux choses :

2. Elle est condamné à mourir à minuit le jour de ses onze ans. Son cercueil l'attend.

Elle est sauvée in extremis par un homme étrange qui l'emmène dans le royaume magique de Nevermoor...

Quand on début ce roman, on entre dans une histoire magique pleine de surprises, d'actions avec un univers prometteur, bien construit et complet. Du début à la fin, j'étais absorbé par ma lecture. C'était tellement bien. Vraiment très original. Au début, cela me faisait penser à Harry Potter, peut-être influencée par l'avis de Time Magazine qui est dos déclarant "Une aventure Harry Potteresque". Mais plus j'avançais dans l'histoire et plus je l'individualisais jusqu'à ne plus voir que Nevermoor.

Très vite, on s'attache à Morrigane de par sa situation quelque peu délicate. Sa famille est super distante, elle se sent tellement seule dans cette famille qui n'attend qu'une chose : son anniversaire pour qu'elle meurt. Une ambiance très glauque donc en ce début de roman, qui m'a plu plus que ce que je ne peux l'admettre. hhh

Au cours du roman, et donc au cours des rencontres avec les autres personnages, on s'attache également à certains d'entre eux. Je pense particulièrement à Fenestra le chat qui est très joueur et compétitif. Je l'ai beaucoup aimé, beaucoup aimé qu'il soit un peu creusé avec une vraie personnalité comme ça au lieu d'être juste un instrument pour faire avancer l'histoire. 

Il me tarde de pouvoir lire la suite !!!

When we start this novel, we enter a magical story full of surprises, actions with a promising universe, well built, and complete. From beginning to end, I was absorbed in reading. It was so good. Really very original. At first, it made me think of Harry Potter, perhaps influenced by the opinion of Time Magazine which is on the back of the book saying "A Harry Potteresque adventure". But the further I went in the story and the more I individualized it up to only see Nevermoor.
Very quickly, we grow attached to Morrigane because of its somewhat delicate situation. Her family is super distant, she feels so alone in this family which only waits for one thing: her birthday for her to die. So a very gloomy atmosphere at the beginning of the novel, which I liked more than I can admit. hhh
During the novel, and therefore in the course of meetings with the other characters, we also get attached to some of them. I particularly think of Fenestra the cat who is very playful and competitive. I liked it a lot; I liked the cat who has a deep and real personality instead of being just an instrument to make move on the story.
I can't wait to read the next book!!

Elevation de Stephen King

Dans la petite ville de Castle Rock, les rumeurs circulent vite. Trop vite.

C'est pourquoi Scott Carey ne veut confier son secret à nul autre que son ami le docteur Bob Ellis : avec ou sans vêtements, sa balance affiche le même chiffre, et chaque jour, immanquablement, son poids diminue, sans que son aspect change.

Que se passera-t-il quand il ne pèsera plus rien ? 

Scott doit également faire face à un autre problème : les cheins de ses nouvelles voisines ont décidé que sa pelouse était le lieu idéal pour faire leurs besoins. Entre le couple et Scott, la guerre est déclarée. Mais lorsqu'il comprend que le comportement des habitants de Castle Rock, y compris le sien, envers les deux femmes mariées met en péril le restaurant qu'elles ont ouvert en ville, il décide de mettre son "pouvoir" à contribution pour les aider.

Ce livre était le challenge du mois de mai de la box livresque Once upon a book. J'avoue que quand j'ai vu que c'était Stephen King, j'ai pris peur. Je n'ai jamais lu de livres d'horreur et je n'aime pas voir de tels films. J'ai donc eu peur d'avoir peur. hhh Riddikulus.

Mais cette première rencontre avec monsieur King s'est très bien passée. ^^ J'ai vraiment adoré ce roman que j'ai lu à peine reçu. Ce n'est pas un livre effrayant, du moins pas dans le sens auquel on pense quand on pense à Stephen King. Seul le supernaturel était présent car en effet le fait de perdre du poids sans en perdre physiquement est un bon tour supernaturel. 

L'histoire est vraiment très attachante, triste. Un roman qui m'a fait avoir des frissons, les larmes aux yeux ! Je me suis très vite attachée aux personnages, spécialement Scott qui subit cet étrange phénomène. C'est un roman qui est émouvant, plein de tendresse, de respect, d'ouverture d'esprit, d'amitié et qui fait réfléchir sur l'éphémérité de la vie. 

Il n'y a que très peu d'actions mais toute l'histoire se joue sur le ressenti de Scott par rapport à sa situation. Et c'est amplement suffisant. Puis c'est un roman court (moins de 150 pages) donc tout se passe très vite. L'histoire n'a pas besoin de plus d'actions. 

La fin m'a un peu surprise. Je pense que j'aurais espérer autre chose pour le personnage. Mais en y réfléchissant, elle n'aurait pas pu être différente et elle est parfaite comme ça : tellement mignonne, courageuse.

This book was the May challenge of the French bookish box Once upon a book. I admit that when I saw it was Stephen King, I was scared. I have never read horror books and I don't like watching such movies. So I was afraid to be afraid hhhh Riddikulus
But this first meeting with Mr. King went very well. ^^ I really loved this novel that I read barely received. This is not a scary book, at least not in the sense we think when we think of Stephen King. Only the supernatural was present because indeed losing weight without losing physically is a good supernatural trick.
The story is really endearing, sad. A novel that made me have shivers down my spine and have tears in my eyes! I quickly grow attached to the characters, especially Scott who undergoes this strange phenomenon. This is a novel that is moving, full of tenderness, respect, open-mindedness, friendship, and that makes reflect on the ephemerality of life.
There are very few actions but the whole story is about Scott's feeling about his situation. And that's enough. Then it's a short novel (less than 150 pages) so everything happens very quickly. The story doesn't need more actions.
I was a bit surprised by the end. I think I would hope something else for the character. But thinking about it again later, it couldn't have been different and it's perfect on this way: so cute, brave.

Holy lands de Amanda Sthers

Saviez-vous qu'en Israël on se servait des porcs pour pourchasser les terroristes? Ainsi Harry Rosenmerck, juif ashkénaze, cardiologue parisien, a tout quitté pour devenir éleveur de cochons en Terre sainte. David, le fils d'Harry, auteur de théâtre à succès, homosexuel, écrit à son père qui ne lui répond jamais. La fille d'Harry, Annabelle, quitte New York pour fuir son chagrin d'amour. 

Et enfin son ex-femme se découvre un cancer et revisite leur histoire d'amour et ses zones d'ombre. C'est un roman sur les limites de chacun, sur les élans du coeur qui restent coincés dans la gorge, sur les instants qui passent et qu'on n'a pas su saisir. Sur la petite histoire dans la grande. 

Quand j'ai reçu ce livre, je l'ai commencé tout de suite en pensant qu'il serait trop bien, que je m'attacherais énormément aux personnages qui, d'après le résumé, avaient l'air attachants : la mère malade, le fils homosexuel rejeté par son père et la fille dévastée par un chagrin d'amour. Mais quelle déception ! Cela n'a pas été le cas du tout ! Je n'ai aimé aucun des personnages que j'ai trouvé faux, creux, sans intérêt. 

L'histoire paraît mignonne aux premiers abords : une famille séparée que la vie rapprochera à nouveau. Mais en fait, n'étant attachée à aucun personnages, cela ne m'a provoqué aucune sorte d'émotions. Ce qui est plutôt décevant et dommage. Surtout que toutes les lettres n'abordent que les relations entre les membres de la famille. Il n'y a aucune action. 

Pour arranger le tout, je n'ai pas su apprécier l'écriture de l'autrice. A mon sens, il y avait soit des fautes de frappe, soit des mauvaises tournures de phrases. Mais des fois, il fallait que je relise plusieurs fois la phrase pour la comprendre, ou pour deviner ce que l'autrice voulait dire.
Concernant le conflit israélo-palestinien, il n'est que peu abordé. De souvenir (faisant cet article plus d'un mois après la lecture du roman), il n'est "évoqué" qu'au début du roman par le rabbin. D'ailleurs, c'est un aspect que j'ai beaucoup aimé ! Le rabbin a un point de vue auquel je ne m'attendais pas de la part d'un Israélien. Ceci a été une très bonne surprise. 

En général, ce livre a donc été une déception même s'il m'a bien diverti pendant les petites heures de lecture (seulement 200 pages) qu'il demande.

And finally, his ex-wife discovers she has cancer and revisits their love story and its shadows. It is a novel about the limits of each one, about the rushes of the heart which remain stuck in the throat, about the moments that pass and that we couldn't seize. On the little story in the big one.

When I received this book, I started it immediately thinking that it would be too good, that I would grow attached to the characters a lot who, according to the summary, seemed very endearing: the sick mother, the homosexual son rejected by his father, and the girl devastated by a heartache. But what a disappointment! That was not the case at all! I didn't like any of the characters. I found them wrong, hollow, uninteresting.
The story seems cute at first sight: a separate family that life will bring closer again. But in fact, not being attached to any characters, it didn't provoke any kind of emotions in me. Which is rather disappointing and a shame. Especially that all the letters only mention the relationships between family members. There is no action. 

To arrange everything, I couldn't appreciate the writing of the author. In my opinion, there were either typing error or bad turnings of sentences. But sometimes, I had to reread the sentence several times to understand it, or to guess what the author meant.
About the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it is not much addressed. As far as I can remember (writing this article more than one month after reading this novel), it is "mentioned" only at the beginning of the novel by the rabbi. By the bye, this is an aspect that I really liked! The rabbi has a point of view that I did not expect from an Israeli. This was a very good surprise.
In general, this book was a disappointment even though it entertained me during the short hours of reading (only 200 pages) that it requires.

Chroniques de l'oiseau à ressort de Haruki Murakami / The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle

Le jour où sa femme disparaît inexplicablement, la vie de Toru Okada bascule - et emporte avec elle les repère du monde. C'est dans une réalité qui s'enfuit sous d'excentriques mirages que le jeune homme s'éveille un matin. Un théâtre d'ombres débutant par de mystérieux coups de téléphone, et où se croisent peu à peu des êtres déroutants, inclassables, aux confins d'un univers guidé par le chant d'un oiseau à ressort...

Que dire de ce roman ? A la suite de cette lecture, je suis un peu perdue. J'ai énormément de mal à dire ce que j'en pense : est-ce que je l'ai aimé ? est-ce que j'ai compris tout ce qui était à comprendre ? Je n'en suis pas sûre. Il mélange tellement la réalité et le surréaliste. Toru Okada lui-même ne comprend pas ce qui lui arrive et ne le peut pas. Il est aussi perdu que nous le sommes en tant que lecteur. Cela rend cette lecture très particulière, confuse et déroutante.
Ce petit pavé d'un peu plus de 950 pages n'abrite que peu d'actions ce qui donne un rythme assez lent à l'histoire. Lorsque j'ai fermé le livre, c'était un aspect que je n'avais pas apprécié durant ma lecture. Mais en fait, un petit moment (plus d'un mois plus tard), je pense que ce rythme est nécessaire à l'histoire. Nous sommes déjà assez perdus avec ce rythme lent. hhh
Pour être honnête, malgré ce manque d'actions clair, surtout dans la première partie, l'écriture de Haruki Murakami est tellement fluide et envoûtante que je revenais avec plaisir dans ma lecture. L'histoire également est envoûtante par son originalité, son étrangeté, son unicité. Je n'ai jamais lu quelque chose de similaire. Je pense d'ailleurs sincèrement que je ne l'aurais jamais lu si l'on ne me l'avait pas donné. Ce n'est pas le genre de livres vers lequel je me tourne facilement. Mais je suis ravie d'avoir découvert cet auteur, son style, son côté surnaturel.
Finalement, certains passages sont vraiment durs à lire : ils sont perturbants, plein de violence, de cruauté. Ce n'est sûrement pas un livre que je conseillerais à des enfants. Ces passages sont d'autant plus durs à lire qu'ils concernent des personnages auxquels on s'attache. Aussi bizarres soient-ils, j'ai réussi à m'attacher aux personnes entourant la nouvelle vie de Toru et Toru lui-même.
Une première lecture de cet auteur qui m'a rendu perplexe. Je tenterais sûrement un autre de ses romans, voir si perdre ses lecteurs fait partie de son style ou si c'était réservé à ce roman.

What to say about this novel? After this reading, I'm feeling a little lost. I have a lot of trouble saying what I think about this book: did I like it? did I understand everything that it was to be understood? I'm not sure. It mixes up reality and surrealism so much. Toru Okada himself does not understand what is happening to him and can not. He is as lost as we are as a reader. This makes this reading very special, confusing, and disconcerting.
This little huge book of a little more than 950 pages contains only few actions which gives a slow pace to the story. When I closed the book, it was an aspect that I didn't appreciate during my reading. But actually, a little while after my reading (more than a month later), I think this rhythm is necessary to the story. We are already pretty lost with this slow pace hhhh
To be honest, despite this clear lack of actions, especially in the first part, the writing of Haruki Murakami is so fluid and haunting that I returned with pleasure in my reading. The story is also haunting by its originality, its strangeness, its uniqueness. I have never read something similar. I sincerely think that I would never have read it if I had not been given it. This is not the kind of book I turn to easily. But I am delighted with having discovered this author, his style, his supernatural side.
Finally, some passages are really hard to read: they are disturbing, full of violence, cruelty. This is certainly not a book I would recommend to children. These passages are all the harder to read because they concern characters to which we grow attached. Strange as they are, I managed to grow attached to the people surrounding the new life of Toru and Tory himself.
One first reading of this author that confused me. I will surely try another of his novels, to see if losing his readers is part of his style or if it was reserved for this novel.
